A last minute setup has allowed me to attend this years New York Comic Con.

San Diego Comic Con- 2011 - NEW ITEMS

I've secured a large booth for this years Comic Con and will be flying solo to showcase all my work to the show's attendees. Its a big move as I usually am located in the Artist Alley and now decided to take a leap into a regular sized booth with all the other big boys in the 'Fantasy Illustrators' section of the show.

In support of having a larger space, I will also be launching a round of new products just in time for the show! At least 4 new items will be created, crafted, and made available for purchase at the show. Exciting times, cannot wait to see them completed and in your hands.

I'm going to be making a series of announcements & will showcase a new item every three week till Comic Con hits. Each item will be a 'small' run and will probably sell out of a few things during the show. But! We will offer the chance to Pre-order. It's highly recommended this time.

The Games We Play - Opening Reception

Just in time for GDC, there is an artist group show that I am a part of. The show is titled 'The Games We Play'. Its a cool idea where its about production artists getting a chance to showcase their own personal side work.

The opening reception will be Thursday, March 3rd from 7PM to 11PM @ 565 Sutter Street, SF, CA. Come see all the work, there will be 25 artists being represented along with myself.

Another year is coming to a close and its been awhile since I have updated my site. Every gallery section has some new work and will be looking forward to updating each section in the future.

'Illustration' section has JUST been updated with 3 new Magic the Gathering images. Here are the images below.

Post Comic Con 2010

Hiyah!
Another year came and went! Gotta say it was the best showing yet since being involved with the Comic Con. So many great friends showed up and just an all around wonderful fun time. Here is a picture with the SteamBot crew, was flattered to trade books with full on signatures/sketches from everyone. Still smiling about that.

At the show, I sold out of my stack of books and prints which was great. I have books still available for sale online, so if you missed a chance to grab one in person... online store is still available.

Next year I am trying to see if I can get a regular booth space and mingle with all the big boys such as Donato, Stephan Martinere, Justin Sweet, Daren Bader, etc. If I cannot secure a booth, I will most certain be returning in the Artist Alley. Wizards posted this image unaltered and without the card information that blocks a lot of the intended scope of the artwork.

This massively tall Elderazi deity is resurrecting a decaying worm'esk creature from the jungle floor. Was a bit hard to show the scale when we have no character/person in the scene to give it a sense of scale... but seeing the forest floor helps a lot which is blocked by the card information.

Hey all,

Good news! I've just accepted a new job at Visceral Games as a Concept Artist. About to work on a big project which I get to be on board for pre-visualization on an unannounced game title. Exciting, but chances are that I will not be updating my site and blog as often.

Here are a few new piece of artwork that I was creating before taking on the new position. Started to tackle environments and a frost dragon... neither are related, but were fun to create.

A few months ago I was approached by a Chinese fantasy art magazine called, ironically enough, 'Fantasy Art'.

Looks like the magazine just finished printing and also a digital previewed is up on their main website. If you are curious, please take a look as the magazine has also covered in the past big artists such as John Howe, Justin Sweet, Stephan Martinere, etc.

REVISED WEBSITE and Wasteland Remake

Hey all,
I have (yet again) revised my website for the hundredth time. The last effort on reworking the site, I created too many categories which just made the whole thing feel cumbersome. Well, no more and happy to unveil the new look. I've also include a Demo Reel which showcases some of my hidden talents as being an animator and modeler. Yeah, I know. Mister everything riiiight here! Hoping to leave the website be for awhile, but will do my best to update galleries as new work becomes available.

Speaking of new work! Finally got some personal concept artwork to post, this time around I am busily remaking my favorite Commodore 64 game 'Wasteland' that was originally created by EA back in the day. Its still an amazing game and not sure why, but the turn based text descriptions are simply awesome.

I'm going to work on concepting out the whole game, well... the look of the game. You know, the players, NPC's, environments, props, etc. For the first time I am really looking forward to working on some environments. As soon as I get another piece done, it will be posted.

District 9 redesigns...

I've posted some of my experiments/redesigns of the movie District 9. All in all, I took the base idea that Weta had designed and made my own iterations of what the creatures could have looked like. Right now, I am focusing on the heads & shoulders only. Later I will do treatments for the whole entire body.

Just encase you have not heard, there is a new art website called CG Hub. Its still in its Beta phase, but can honestly say that its all ready a great site. Plenty of artistic inspiration, tutorials, and articles that can keep you busy for hours(or days).

Had a good showing this year at the APE convention that was hosted right here in San Francisco. Amazingly enough, Massive Black had a table right next to mine and gotta tell you.... it made the show very awesome! Coro kept cracking me up with his insanely vivid stories and thoughts... love that dude.

Other news... an interview has recently surfaced. After attending the Fangoria convention this past year in LA in April, I was invited to be featured and interviewed for a horror film site called The Chainsaw Mafia. It has a cool underground feel to it and really is active in supporting & reporting about the horror film industry.

So... As destiny will have it, Dave Seeley opened his door amd allow me to stay with him during my visit to Boston. It's been a good time. And! I also was fortunate enough to ended up sitting side by side with Rick Berry, painting at his studio.

To say the least it was amazing time. Of course I succeed in producing crap... I wiped away 3 different images and restarted. Hanging with Rick(whom is just an amazing person and artist that I have ever known) was definitely the highlight of this past year.

1 years ago I started to work with Wizards on some Magic The Gathering trading cards. Finally they are starting to release the new set called Zendikar and I'm scheduled to appear in Boston on September 26th to greet and sign some cards. The art and set is looking really fantastic and feel flattered to be a part of it.

Another year, another great comic con. Thanks to everyone whom stopped by and always a pleasure to hang with some great friends in which I only get to see once a year during the show. Olivia was kind enough to snap some photographs, as I was lagging behind in taking my own.

At my booth, I end up being interviewed by the CG Channel website. It was actually fun as the interviewer really did his research and a great person to boot! Not sure when it will appear on their site, but I will be sure to make another post when I know more.

Man, now I've gotta way another 350 days before the next show.

Mail Order Monsters: Volume 2

Heyah!

Just in time for the Comic Con, I created a very small publication and new sketch book titled 'Mail Order Monsters: Volume 2'. Its focused around demons and actually talks about the history of Demons, followed by pages of sketches, and includes an art tutorial. In addition to Mail Order Monsters, I will promoting and selling Salvaged.

Rather than doing another major publication similar to Salvaged, I am switching over to smaller books that are easier to produce, less costly, and in essence keeping manageable. Plus I love the whole motion of conception, to creating, and finally having a final book in hand to present in months time rather than years.

I've printed only 100 copies of Mail Order Monsters Volume 2. It's 40 pages, color cover and black & white interiors for $10 smackers(shipping will probably add an addition $2-$3). I'm unveiling the book at the Comic Con this year, but if you will like to order a copy online, please email me. Be happy to mail you a signed book & includes a sketch.

Hey!

Last nights workshop had a great vibe, wonderful costumes, performances, music, and all together a fantastic event. Thanks to Bad Unkl Sistah for being so creative and being a host for the space. And thanks to Nadia for organizing and arranging all the details. Hoping everyone enjoyed my presentation and it was inspirational.

Comic Con 2009! I found out that I am to be seated in the Artist Alley. Seat CC-13. Its going to be a tight fit in the alley this year, only 4ft of table space per artist. I'll have a banner this year, so it should make it easier for those trying to find me.

Also I will have a BRAND NEW Sketch Book for sale just in time for the Comic Con.
I'll make another blog about the book and showcase a few pages.

House on the Rock

I've seen some weird places, but nothing compares to the House on The
Rock. The biggest collection of oddities and thee craziest walk thru
ever. It's a complete maze and yet it has a beautiful flow to it.
Hard to describe. Behind me is a three story sculpture of a whale
battling a giant squid. I'm at the top of the third story and at the
opening of the whales massive mouth. All I can say is... What the?!?!

It was recommended that I should visit and eat at Texas Roadhouse
during my visit to Green Bay. Gotta say, it was a trippy & surreal
place. Peanut shells littered the ground, country music was avidly
played, and all the poor servers were made to line dance once an
hour. YeeeeeeHaaaaaa! But gotta confess the food was decent.

Back to Wisconsin..

Arrived safe and sound in Wisconsin. All ready I miss Italy, the
great wine, food, and new found friends from Aosta. In addition, it's
been a huge culture shock all across the board.

Been gearing up for the book signing event on Saturday and also
addressing local media. Shortly after, I'll be making a small road
trip to visit some odd places thru WI.

Here is a great example of what people can buy at the local grocery
market... meat patty with a wedge of butter. You've got it, a butter
burger! And it just gets worse from there. Really.

The event just wrapped up. It was absolutely amazing and honestly met
some new great friends. Everyone involved are wonderful people and
it's beyond an honor to be a part of this event. Massive props to
Mattias and Valentina for hosting such a unique and once in a life
time experience. Without them, this exhibit would not be possible.

Soon I will be back on the plane and off to Wisconsin to appear at my
next scheduled book signing event and lectures.

Art of Games event is today

Throughout the city big posters are advertising the Art of Games
event. Here is one that is sporting Stephan's work, which does go
well with the mountain city of Aosta. It's a huge event and cannot
express how unbelievable this whole experience has been. To be
associated with a small and talented group of artists is beyond an
honor... In addition to be in Italy. I swear this feels like a
awesome dream and surreal.

Castle tours of Aosta.

Aosta is within the Alps that borders France and Sweden. Everytime I
look up,I see the most amazing mountains and rolling hills. In
addition there are tons of castles that are well kept. Here I am in
front of an enterance of a castle and giddy with childlike happiness
to go within the walls.

Genova, oh my!

After Pisa, I had no idea what to expect. Genova turned out to be a
beautiful town with a lovely mixture of ancient and modern. The place
we are staying at is a converted church made into a living space.
Simply amazing!

It's true, Pisa does lean a little to the left. Sweet deal.

Overall, the city itself is rather unimpressive and rather dirty
actually. Beautiful buildings and ancient sculptures tagged by the
youth. One day is more than enough. Regardless, happy to see the
world famous tower and to enjoy some powerful espresso. My eyes are
wide open.

This city is insanely beautiful with it's narrow hilly streets and
numerous churches. Periodically the streets open up to views such as
these. Cured meats and cheeses are the best meals in town, so far.

Art show in Florence

During our last night within Florence, Lucio took us to an amazing
private art school in which they were exhibiting the students work.
Reminded me of the ConceptArt Atelier. Very impressive work and
reminded me of good ol' Carl(thanks for teaching everyone properly).

We are now on our way to Siena to mess with some of the locals and
draw some statues.

Moped mastery of Florence

Another wonderful night hanging out with Lucio and Maila in Florence.
Gotta tell you, riding with a local on a moped is equal to a roller
coaster ride at Six Flags Great America. Speed limit, through out the
city is set at 50 mph.. Which is rarely obeyed. Think last night we
reach at least 80mph. Kinda scary when the only thing keeping on the
bike was myself holding onto the bike! Simply awesome.

Greetings from the Zoology museum.

Had a wonderful time last night, spent some time on Theee fastest
moped that Lucio drove and zoomed thru the streets at 90mph. I was so
damn scared and yet, very happy. I'm alive!

Today, I explored the Zoology museum and was totally blown away. Was
able to snap this shot before being caught. No photo! Oh yeah?
Damn, take that!

Also spent time at the Modern Art Museum. Unfortunatly all the
exhibits prohibit photos... Yeah, it's a bummer. Oh well, still great
to see in person.

Day 1 in Florence

Wonders what a solid night of rest and a show can do. It's the first
day in Florence and spent it walking around seeing all the public
sculptures on display. The highlight was seeing an exhibit of
Bernin's work(no pictures allowed though). Amazing works are
everywhere... Simply mind blowing.

All is going well, except we are now in the throws of jet lag and a
hangover.

Below is a picture of the train station in Milano. It's a beautiful
mix of old metal with new tech interweaved between the open
structure. We are now on a train heading to Florence to hang out with
a fellow artist Lucio. It's 9pm here, which means that it's noon in
SF. Running on empty fumes and lacking a solid meal... Tomorrow will
be a great start to seeing the sight.

Mail Order Mosters- Volume 2

After years of lagging and indecision, the second volume of Mail Order Monsters will be ready for this years Comic Con. Its my monster and creature art book, a "yearly annual" . Some rough sketches, some well rendered in graphite, and there will be a How-to section for those of curious minds.

Each page will be thought out and design to a specific theme of 'Ancient text book' with some 'Mad scientist field notes' vibe. So its not just another sketch book just slapped together and rushed. The interiors will be printed in black and white, but the cover will be sporting some pretty colors.

Fangoria aftermath...

Just returned from the 'Fangoria Weekend of Horrors' convention(April 17-19th). It was my first time attending and displaying at this show. I was fortunate to stay at Tom Baxa's place while in LA. In addition, we were neighboring booths at the Fangoria show in which he kept things lively and fun! Thanks for everything Tom! Had a fantastic time. Everyone that I met during the convention were very nice. A number of contacts were established and hoping some projects will come thru within the months ahead.

Upon my return today(Monday April 20th), I was a guest speaker at Barron Storey's class within CCAC. To say the least, Barron has always influenced my work and it was an incredile honor to spend time with him. I took to heart everything he said and will remember the time spent talking with Barron, lecturing, and interacting with his students.

Next up, Italy in 3 weeks time to guest appear for a show and to lecture. Then off to Green Bay to attend a book signing and to give an art demo,

Post Massive Black Dallas Workshop

Its all ready been a week since the workshop, feels like it was yesterday.

I've gotta say that the Dallas Workshop was an amazing time! All the instructors were rock solid, made some new friendships, hung out with great friends, and the time went blazing by. The space for the event was perfect. It was really easy to see what everyone was working on at any given time and never felt that I might be missing out on something. All the formal lectures were well done and of course the traditional room was rocking the house.

Even though I did not give a lecture, I did spend more time sitting and demoing then previous workshops. Anyone whom stopped by, hope my demos were informative. And for those whom might not have seen me doodling away, I was trying to demonstrate how to utilize photo manipulations and integrate them into your concept designs.
Here is what I did during the show. Its always humbling to try and create something cool while doing a 'live demo'. I'll got plenty of work to post in the future, just awaiting for the work to see print.

Looking forward to starting up all the workshops, events, art demos, and traveling. Here is a brief schedule for 2009.

* February 27 - March 1 --->WonderCon in San Francisco. Will be on foot this year.
* March 23- 27th ---> Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Will be on foot and running around.
* March 28- 31st ---> Massive Black Workshop in Dallas Texas. Be attending and might also demo.
* April (no exact date set) ---> Sole Art lecture and demo with yours truly here in San Francisco.
* April 17- 19th ---> Fangoria Weekends of Horror's convention in LA, CA. Will have a booth.
* May 20- 31st---> Lecture, art demo, gallery show, and book signing in Green Bay Wisconsin. Might also be doing more book signing events in Milwaukee, Madison, and Minneapolis.
* July 23-26th---> Comic Con International in San Diego. Will have an artist booth.
* Oct 17-18th --->APE (Alternative Press Expo) here in San Francisco. Will have a booth.

Hello,

Another San Diego Comic Con came and went sooo fast. Always a mix bag of emotions. Saw numerous good friends and had a blast while it lasted! I was fortunate to sit next to Tom Baxa whom made the show amazingly fun. My wife Olivia Lopez kept the booth running while I was gone(thank you). And great seeing and hanging with my great friend Aaron Blecha whom is a wonderful artist and fellow collaborator of The Midwest Monsters(whom flew all the way out from London to be at the show).

Appreciate the kind words of support and those whom picked up a copy of Salvaged. Of course, a Convention will not be complete without some random shots exploring the surroundings.

Yep, I've joined the mass legions of Bloggers in hopes of trying to keep my site updated.
